Japanese Magazine, MOMOTO, features Br. Mario Dacanay’s Shidokan Karate training in the dojo of Hanshi Morinobu Maeshiro, 9th Dan Red Belt in Okinawa, Japan.
Br. Mario Pastrano Dacanay FSC, aside from being a business management professor here at USLS, is also a certified De La Salle Shidokan, practicing karate since 1968. Part of his 2015 Japan Sabbatical leave, was his visit to La Salle Gakuen in Kagoshima. His last stop was in Okinawa where he had the opportunity to train with Masters of Hombu Dojo and with Hanshi Miyahara of the Okinawa Shorin-Ryu Shidokan Association 291-5 Kokuba, Naha City.
When he went to train with Hanshi Maeshiro Morinobu to check on his basics and “Kata”, he was interviewed by the assistant editor of MOMOTO Magazine. The main article, published last January 16, was entitled “Share our Okinawa Karate with the World Vol. 25” featuring different parts of the world where Shidokan Karate is practiced. In its sub-article, “A teacher teaches what a teacher is”, Br. Mario shared the history of the coming of the Okinawa Shorin-Ryu Karatedo in the Philippines. He says that the way of thinking in Karate shows us the way of life. The most important thing is how you control yourself in any given situation.
“Okinawa is the "Shurei-No-Kuni" or the Land of respect and Good Manners. For the past 48 years of practice, how amazing the Okinawan karate culture shaped my personality and character that I continue to share it for the rest of my life, especially in the formation of the young people aligned in the LASALLIAN WAY: TEACH MINDS, TOUCHING HEARTS AND TRANSFORMING LIVES.", Br. Mario said.
