USLS Conducts Earthquake Drill, reinforces commitment to safety

The University reinforced its dedication to safety and emergency preparedness through an earthquake drill held on campus on June 27.  Beginning at 3:00 PM and concluding within minutes, the drill engaged all administrative staff, officers, teachers, and students of the institution.

Spearheaded by USLS Emergency Response Team (ERT) led by Safety Officer Allan Malayang with support from Engr. Jerry Uy, the drill focused on ensuring readiness and strict adherence to mandated safety protocols. Participants efficiently executed swift evacuation procedures to designated safe areas under the guidance of the response team.

Safety Officer Malayang emphasized the drill's objectives, highlighting the critical emphasis on safety awareness, evaluation of preparedness measures, and the implementation of efficient evacuation protocols. These drills align with a quarterly national initiative mandated by the Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) of the Philippines, aimed at bolstering disaster resilience in educational settings.

"With participation slightly below a thousand due to the summer term, the team successfully executed the emergency response plan within the designated time frame," Malayang said.

The drill's effectiveness was credited to the seamless coordination of 42 dedicated response team members and clear communication with local authorities.

Looking forward, USLS remains steadfast in its commitment to enhancing emergency preparedness through regular drills, continuous updates to emergency plans and ongoing training sessions for both students and staff.

By fostering a culture of proactive response and safety, USLS aims to safeguard the well-being of its community during potential seismic events.
