USLS to host 11th KURIS International Theater Festival

The University is set to transform into a global hub of creativity and cultural exchange as it proudly hosts the 11th edition of the KURIS International Theater Festival & Workshops from February 21-24, 2024.

This vibrant celebration is an integral part of the National Arts Month festivities, promising a rich showcase of performances, exhibits, screenings, lectures, and workshops that will captivate both seasoned practitioners and enthusiastic audiences.

Festival attendees can expect mesmerizing performances, thought-provoking exhibits, screenings, and a lineup of engaging activities, including intellectually stimulating lectures and workshops by esteemed practitioners from around the world, spanning playwrights, directors, actors, visual artists, and designers.

Notable resource persons include Dr. Anton Juan (Notre Dame University), Alvin Erasga Tolentino (Canada), Yasuhiro Okada (Japan), Emmanuel Paul Leonce Mailly (France), Victoria Waine-Kate Ip (Canada), Marc Gerenton (France), Glenn Sevilla Mas (Cultural Center of the Philippines), Denise Aguilar (InterCultural Theatre Institute, Singapore), Dr. Elsie Martinez-Coscolluela (Bacolod), August Melody Andong (Women’s Playwright International, Inc., Iloilo), Rene Hinojales (Bacolod), Jonathan Davila (Bacolod), Roger Joshua Venzal (Binalbagan), Jaime Chua (Bacolod), Joseph Liprado (Bacolod).

Another festival highlight is the ‘ACCUMULATION,’ an environmental performance by Co.ERASGA Dance led by Filipino Canadian artist Mr. Alvin Tolentino, to be showcased on February 23, 2024, at 9:30 AM and 2:30 PM at the USLS Gallaga Theater.

The Kuris International Theatre Festival and Workshops annually bring together school and community-based theatre groups, along with theatre practitioners, scholars, and artists from across the globe, aiming to advance creativity, diversity, and excellence in artistic expression, while fostering networking, collaboration, and artistic exchange.

Kuris at USLS is in collaboration with USLS The Artists' Hub, The Performance Laboratory, Inc.,Women Playwrights International Philippines, International Theatre Institute - International Playwright’s Forum, and Teatrokon: West Visayas Theater Network.
