‘Under a Piaya Moon’ film by USLS alum wins big at CinePanalo

The film ‘Under a Piaya Moon,' directed by USLS AB Communication alum Kurt Soberano, emerged triumphant at the inaugural Puregold CinePanalo Film Festival, clinching the prestigious Best Picture trophy.

This Negrense full-length feature was showcased alongside other contenders during the festival's awards night held on March 15 at the Gateway Cinemama in Quezon City.

Featuring Jeff Moses, Joel Torre, Pauline Dimaranan, Charito Ferrer-Motus, and a talented ensemble cast, the film unfolds against the backdrop of 1980s Bacolod City.

It follows the journey of a determined young man striving to uphold his family's tradition by competing in an inter-city pastry competition.

In addition to winning the Best Picture award, the film also received recognition for Best Actor (Moses), Best Supporting Actor (Torre), Best Cinematography (Nathan Bringuer), Best Production Design (Jed Sicangco and Soberano), and Best Editing (Rodney Jarder Jr. and Soberano).

It was also honored with the MTRCB Responsableng Paglikha Award and a Special Citation. This marks Soberano’s first full-length film following the success of his previous award-winning short film, “Golden Bells.”

The University extends its congratulations to Soberano, the cast and crew, and the many Lasallians who contributed to the film's success.
